Participants who took part in this training were not only students, but also civil servants and young people who were interested in knowing more about the world of Barista. They are trained by lecturers of Food Engineering Technology and Food Technology at the KupangPolitani who have received BNSP Barista certification.
The beginner barista training was officially opened by the Director of Politani, Ir. Thomas Lapenangga, MS. The Director welcomed this activity and furthermore, the Food Engineering Technology Study Program is expected to be able to conceptualize a training pattern that provides benefits.
"Participants who are declared to have passed are given something useful, such as an apron or a set of tools in coffee processing, which the participants can later use after completing the training," explained the Director.
The Director added that PolitaniKupang applies production-based practices. Through the concept developed by the Food Engineering Technology Study Program, PolitaniKupang is willing to share with young people. So that in the future the KupangPolitani can create young entrepreneurs not only on campus but in the East Nusa Tenggara area.
Chairperson of the Agrippina Committee Agnes Bele, STP., M.APCM said that this beginner barista training activity was aimed at the general public who are interested in learning about coffee and also as coffee lovers.
"We provide knowledge to the general public, so that in the future we can develop this knowledge to open a business such as a cafe or become a real barista through a competency test," he explained.
In this training, participants were given material on the introduction of Indonesian coffee, coffee processing, how to serve coffee (Coffee Brewing Tools and Expresso Based Coffee Tools) and hands-on practice of brewing coffee.
The Barista Team Coordinator, Krisna Setiawan, SP., M.Sc added that the KupangPolitani Barista Team would like to share knowledge through training to participants so that they know the methods and how to use barista equipment and formulate flavors.
Seeing the great enthusiasm of the participants who want to take part in this beginner barista training, this training will be used as a routine activity for further barista training to be held.
In the future, this activity will be one way to introduce the original coffee of East Nusa Tenggara, especially the original coffee from the mainland of Timor, so that it can be promoted worldwide, such as Bajawa Flores Coffee and Manggarai Robusta Coffee which were already known.
